As organizations finalize building their 2027 budgets, two patterns keep coming up in my conversations with leaders.

The first is that we are quick to budget for the technical tools that keep the organization running, but slower to invest in the people and leadership skills that decide how well it actually performs.

The second is that many organizations are working incredibly hard to fix problems that never seem to go away. In most cases, it isn't a lack of effort. It's that they are solving the wrong problem. When we skip the work of clearly defining what is really going on, we end up treating symptoms while the root cause stays in place.

So before you finalize your 2027 budget, I'd encourage you to step back and ask three questions:

  1. What must our leaders be able to do in 2027 that they cannot consistently do today in order to reach our strategic goals?
  2. Are we creating an environment where people feel safe saying what needs to be said, so the real problems come to the surface?
  3. Where would developing our people create the greatest multiplier effect on the business?

Your answers can point you to your greatest leadership opportunity and, very likely, your greatest return in 2027.

To help, we put together a short 2027 Leadership Investment Guide you can work through with your team.

If you'd like to talk through what this could look like for your organization, I'd be glad to connect. You can grab a time that works for you HERE, or simply reply to this email.
